Fresh Picked

Fresh Picked

A school food program that combines farm-to-school, scratch cooking and garden-to cafeteria practices to improve student well-being and support local agriculture.

Farm to School

We’ll connect you with local farmers that will deliver seasonal produce to your school at a cost that is comparable to large produce distributors. Our farmers will host students on field trips or come to the school to provide samples of produce. One of the most exciting features of this program allows schools to request that farmers plant certain crops just for them in a designated area of the farm. Want sweet potatoes in the Fall for your Thanksgiving meal? Your farmer will plant a crop for you in April and you can track the progress from seed to harvest.

Garden to School

Don’t have a traditional garden? We’ve partnered with Woolly Pocket to bring you a garden. A Woolly School Garden can hang on any wall or fence and saves space by allowing you to grow vertically. By using Woolly’s organic seeds and soil, you ensure that the produce from the garden is safe to use in the cafeteria. We’ve written an innovative standards-based garden curriculum supplement to accompany the Woolly Garden that integrates nutrition and agriculture lessons into the classroom experience.

Scratch Cooking

Let’s get back to basics with real food and meals cooked from ingredients in their raw form. Our chefs are members of Michelle Obama’s “Let Move!” campaign and will train your staff in school-friendly scratch cooking methods. We’ve created recipes and an implementation schedule that will ease your staff into preparing a menu that steers away from processed food.
